College Comparison

Throughout my fifteen years of education I was always interested in going to college. When I reached my first year in high school, I found myself interested in two colleges West Chester University and Community College of Philadelphia. West Chester University is located 100 W. Rosedale Avenue in Chester PA, as for Community College of Philadelphia it’s located here in Philadelphia on 1700 Spring Garden Street. These two colleges have large amounts of student that attend each year. WCU has 14,211 students and CCP has 19,051. It’s a lot harder to get in to WCU than CCP; WCU’s percentage of applicants that are admitted are 49% for WCU and 93% for CCP. CCP has more of my racial background students attending which is 47% than WCU which is 8%. But WCU’s retention rate is higher - 84% of their students graduate, as for CCP that’s not far behind with 79% of there students transfer successfully. At CCP, about 59.6 of students receive some type of financial aid, and at WCU 57% students receive financial aid. The cost to attend as a full-time student is cheaper at CCP than WCU. WCU wants $19,202 to attend each year, an CCP only wants $4,800 a year.
Next, both of these colleges accept a GED in place of a diploma, but WCU has higher application requirements which include a $35 application fee, SAT reasoning test or ACT with writing. For CCP you also have to pay an application fee which is $20 and bring your GED or high school diploma.
Lastly, WCU has other things that I would love to join such as Track, Modeling and Cheerleading. You cannot fail any classes if you are in these activities, or you will be kicked out until your grades are brought up. But what I found to be very interesting, these two colleges both have a Childcare center for my two year old son. I am leaning more toward CCP, because when I went on their college tour, I spoke with a staff member that explained to me if I attend that school financial aid will pay for all my class, and I will leave there not having to pay anything. Another reason to choose CCP, is because I heard they have they best medical programs in the country and I want to be a Radiology technician.
